Adaptions help the organism survive in different environments, they occur over time. Read about a few below.
A common adaption of desert plants is different ways to store water in the roots, stems, leaves or fruit. They're called succulents, an example are cactuses. Root systems are different for each plant, some plants have roots that go into the ground and others have root systems just below the surface.
Another adaption are the leaves of desert plants. Some are glossy, which reflects the sun's rays and reduces the leaves temperature and their evaporation rates. Waxy leaves prevent the moisture from escaping.
One adaptation of animals is nocturnal. They are inactive during the day in shelters and at night they hunt when it's cool. Some examples are lizards, snakes,
